How to Attract Traffic to Your Site

One of the largest challenges of operating a website is attracting traffic to your site. While gaining ground on natural search engine results pages (SERPs) may seem mysterious, they actually all work on an algorithm. Unfortunately, no major search engine will disclose their formula. However, we can safely assume that keyword density, meta and title tags, incoming links, and relevant page content are taken into strong consideration. But search engine optimization (SEO) can get real complex real quick. There is a ton of information and tools out there on the best ways to optimize, so use your favorite search engine and scout around for what’s hot now in the SEO realm. Here are a few great places to start:

Another option is Paid Search – by paying a search engine for each click they refer to your site, you are guaranteed traffic, no matter where you are in the natural search listings. However, we NEVER recommend this without a decent method of tracking your return on investment. Check out Google Analytics tools, or similar reporting tools, before throwing up a paid search ad. One additional note: we all know that Google is slowly taking over the world, but they don’t control as much of the search market as you might think. Don’t focus your efforts solely on Google – Yahoo!, Ask.com, and MSN are also leaders in the space and have paid search (also called PPC) offerings.
